Philip seems to be progressively less and less able to cope with the life that he chose, and more and more unstable as a result. It's both apparent to the viewer and commented on once in a while on the show. What are the things that have happened that have made him feel that strain in a way he hadn't before--and why those things, at those times?

In the season two finale, Philip told Elizabeth a story from his youth. It started with him going halfway across town to get milk and kids attacking him on the way, and then he went on to say that one day he decided to do something about it.

His story was cut off by the need to get back to work, but how do you think it might have ended had he been able to finish?

Philip and Elizabeth try to keep their family and a few other aspects of their lives entirely separate from their handlers (Gabriel, who we never met, and then Claudia, and then Kate), but it's unclear how much spying the KGB does on them, and therefore how much they're aware of anyway.

Did either Gabriel or Claudia know about Elizabeth's longstanding relationship with Gregory, for example (something Philip didn't even know until the early eighties)? And how much do the handlers know about the kids' daily lives and personalities?
