Well, I have just rewatched the pilot.

Each of us knows that everything changed when Philip killed Timoshev.

But I’m wondering about a scene with Elizabeth: after hitting Timoshev's head with a kick by crashing it into the wall, she drops the wrench to the ground and tells Philip to do as he pleases with him…

It seems that she agree with Philip to defect and she will stay with him… but I’m not sure….

I've been looking up some things and one thing I realized is the show never quite makes clear that the Ambassador's residence is a separate place from the Embassy proper:

It looks like the KGB ran most of its operations out of the ambassador's residence, though, rather than the embassy - probably to maintain security and also to better confuse the FBI, since I expect cars going back and forth would be a common occurrence and a KGB officer slipping in as a "cultural attache" wouldn't be remarked upon unduly.

Also, I'm wondering how easy (or not) it was to just walk around Washington. I know Vasili does it a couple of times in the early season, and Oleg could, with some care, drive around and elude FBI agents assigned to watch anyone who came out of the embassy or the Rezidentura. And Arkady just showed up at Gaad's door once upon a time (the sheer chutzpah of that cracks me up, BTW).

Still not ready to stop talking about the show yet--there's so many new things to see now that it's over! I keep noticing new things. For instance, I just noticed another parallel to season 1. Back then in In Control the Russians think there's a coup going on while the Americans assume Reagan's shooter is a nutjob and Haig's just puffing himself up. Both sides are understanding the situation via patterns they're familiar with from their own history.

In S6 we *do* have a coup, and it's Russian, and Stan more than once says he doesn't care who leads the country. Again the two sides are having a very different reactions to the potential loss of one of their leaders. It seems the Russians overreact in In Control and Stan under-reacts in START.

Anyway, now that the show's over we also know that we're never going to get detailed backstory on Philip, so I was thinking about what we did get. ( Cutting here to save space... )

In their post-season-finale interviews, the showrunners have been very consistent about not wanting to speculate about what happens to any of the characters after the events of the finale, and have repeatedly said that it's now up to audience members to decide those things for themselves. Of course, to be consistent with both the nature and the tone of the show, any future imagined developments should probably be a) realistic (both in the sense of "consistent with reality" and in the sense of "psychologically viable for that person at that time"), and b) a mixture of melancholic and hopeful. But even within those parameters there are an awful lot of possible outcomes, and there are an awful lot of characters who those possible outcomes could happen to, as well.

So what do you think happens next? For any of the characters, and at any point in time after when the finale ends?

Thank you all so much, all of you, for sharing your love for this wonderful show with us over the course of the last six years. Speaking for myself, it's been a special pleasure getting to know many of you (even a couple of you in person!), but even those I haven't had the opportunity to interact with outside of this comm, I have been awed by your insights and amused by your jokes and just generally very grateful for your contributions here.

I expect the comm to fall quiet (as it has tended to outside of the active seasons anyway, at least when Treon and I haven't deliberately pushed it into activity), but I can't imagine why we'd want to take it down, so please feel free to keep posting about the show if you feel like it.
