Date: 2015-02-11 04:05 pm (UTC)Apparently they had been planning to explore the precise nature of what happened while Stan was undercover in season 2, but Noah Emmerich asked them not to, not yet. He wants them to do that eventually, but not right up front. So we almost certainly have that story to look forward to at some point.
Your insight about Elizabeth's mother being the only person who still remembers her as her original Russian self and that being a powerful source of some of the pain is dead-on, and really well analysed.

And I forgot to mention that I love the idea of Stan as a KGB mole. He's obviously not, but it's something I'd love to read in fic.
