Where things go from here: speculation and musing

In their post-season-finale interviews, the showrunners have been very consistent about not wanting to speculate about what happens to any of the characters after the events of the finale, and have repeatedly said that it's now up to audience members to decide those things for themselves. Of course, to be consistent with both the nature and the tone of the show, any future imagined developments should probably be a) realistic (both in the sense of "consistent with reality" and in the sense of "psychologically viable for that person at that time"), and b) a mixture of melancholic and hopeful. But even within those parameters there are an awful lot of possible outcomes, and there are an awful lot of characters who those possible outcomes could happen to, as well.

So what do you think happens next? For any of the characters, and at any point in time after when the finale ends?

According to translator Masha Gessen Philip and Elizabeth's skills make them hugely employable in the new Russia. They've got intimate knowledge of the US and a perfect command of English, besides all the side skills we've seen them display as spies. They're going to be in demand all over the place soon in Russia!

I'd love to know what you think they might end up doing! (I think Philip might end up running security for some business or project that he thinks is a good thing, and Elizabeth might teach fighting or maybe English, but mostly spend a lot of her time staying away from everyone and painting.)

Okay, I wasn't going to share our thing, but now I kinda feel moved to. :)

soupytwist and I had a long conversation about what we thought would happen to everyone, and I wrote it up into a quasi-narrative. I'll paste it into the next however many comments it needs! (And soupytwist, it's expanded just A BIT since you last saw it; hope that's okay!)

You know, so far I haven't really had any ideas about what they might end up doing! i do think they'd be together, but I'm not sure yet about jobs...
