Wouldn't searches be logged, with the potential for Stan to be asked why he's looking up these names?

It's not like Stan's hiding why he's doing it. He's allowed.

Why on earth wasn't what he picked up plausibly deniable? And what's so incriminating about it that Oleg doesn't just laugh when told he's facing a lifetime in prison?

I think the FBI can totally put him in prison for espionage.

Also, I think anyone in the FBI would realize that his searches are probably a tip of the iceberg thing. There's got to be a lot of Jenningses up and down the Eastern Seaboard, and it's a long shot that the travel agency would be involved in any kind of criminal or even civil proceedings.

(And at that, civil proceedings are easily explainable - like say Philip suing a supplier for nondelivery or suing a client for failure to pay, so a Dupont Travel Circle v. [someone] is hardly going to be a smoking gun.)
