Has anyone seen this show yet? It seems like a very similar premise to "The Americans" and even takes place in the height of the Cold War as well (the early 1970s, prior to detente).
* * * * * * * Well, both versions do deal with Cold War spies, but I feel that's the only similarity. The Game focuses on a group of MI5 spies investigating Soviet spies, with a huge focus on Joe, one of the spies, and his girlfriend, Yulia, a Soviet spy he was going to defect for until she was murdered. Now Joe's looking for who murdered Yulia while also serving MI5.
The show's watchable. It relies on spy cliches a lot more than The Americans, but it's not a horrible show, either. At least it's better than The Assets, a show made for ABC in the US featuring English actors with very bad American and European accents.
(It's also worth nothing that this is the BBC America/BBC Wales version of The Game, not to be confused with The CW [and later, and currently, BET]'s dramedy about US [ex-]football players. I'm still befuddled as to why, at least in the US, there wasn't some sort of name change for the BBC America show. BET's The Game is a huge cable hit.)
