There has been a lot of outrage from critics about The Americans not getting much "Emmy love"--enough that I'm not even going to try to link to all of it. But here are the best pieces I could find that mention the show as having been snubbed: from Grantland's Andy Greenwald, from TIME's James Poniewozick, from Hitfix's Alan Sepinwall, and from Vox's Todd Vanderwerff (formerly of the AV Club).

In better news, co-showrunners Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields have signed a long-term development deal with FX that probably means not only more seasons of The Americans, but also additional co-productions between the two of them in the future.

Keri Russell has been doing some interviews to promote her new movie, and is sometimes getting asked about The Americans as well (or bringing it up herself): in an interview with MTV, and in another with the Miami Herald.

Forbes talks in some detail about binge-watching The Americans in an article about the difficulties of binge-watching.

The Americans has made Rolling Stone's list of the best TV of 2014 so far, and Forbes' 14 best moments on TV in 2014's first half.

Only sort-of related to The Americans, but still potentially interesting: the Windsor Star is reporting on the recent declassification of a large store of files about the Soviet illegals. (The Americans is mentioned as having been inspired by the historical events surrounding that information.)

And finally, a German fan is blogging about the show at the blog "Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Fernsehen" (in German).

The long-term development deal sounds exciting and makes me happy :) I need to watch more HBO and FX shows to better appreciate the rivalry that Andy Greenwald talks about.

What is the forbes link about binge-watching?

I also really liked Keri's interview on Late night with Seth Meyers :) http://www.justjared.com/2014/07/11/keri-russell-promotes-dawn-of-the-planets-of-the-apes-on-late-night/

It's definitely gonna suck when we hit December 25, 1991 and P&E stare at each other and ask if it was even worth it, everything they went through and the risks they took.

And the sad part? They just might say, "No." :'(

The Forbes article links to another behind a paywall. It's about it sometimes being difficult to find a whole season on a 'video on demand' service - they could find s1 on Amazon, but it disappeared from their s2 source before they'd finished watching it. As they pay Netflix and Amazon, they're not happy.

Not a word on 'alternative' sources, including buying the DVDs.

The Vox piece about the process of getting one is very good.

Thank you for this list. It is excellent. Although, I had already seen most of these links you are the best 'detective' for finding new sources.

No surprise that I love Sepinwall's and Greenwall's essays the most. Greenwall is the best TV writer I have ever read. Sepinwall is nearly as good and maybe better with his insights.

Can't believe that Emmys choose stale season 4 Downton Abbey season over "The Americans." I loved Downton in the first few seasons, but now it's time to move on. And Jeff Daniels over Matthew Rhys? Pulleeeze. Such a mistake and lost opportunity.

What I truly don't like about the Emmys is that once they choose a 'best show' they keep choosing it for an Emmy if it is on the air, even if the quality has deteriorated.

Right now, the problem is that networks don’t know the best way to manage shows live, on VOD and streaming to maximize profits. They are experimenting just like everyone else is and some of those experiments might not seem entirely consumer friendly.

Frankly? If I could legally download torrents of TV shows with embedded subtitles the day of release?

Me and my bank account would like to speak with you.

But it's a pretty irony that it's actually easier for me to binge-watch a show on my computer using. shall we say, very unofficial sources, than to actually be fucked to hunt down the DVDs or get Netflix set up 'n shit.
