Re: Tobolsk
Date: 2014-05-23 01:37 am (UTC)Police in Russia suck. They are notoriously corrupt. The gangs probably had police who bought protection from them or something.
My question is: what kind of gangs? Do you think the show will address the Vory v zakone? I mean, there's no way that's who the gang was, but the overlap between Siberian prisons, gangs, and the Vory are fascinating.
Anyone who's interested should check out the documentary The Mark of Cain, which focuses on Russian prison tattoos. The movie Eastern Promises is also really good - graphic, but good.

Re: Tobolsk
Date: 2014-05-23 11:21 am (UTC)I would say average sun? I'm not sure what you mean by sun situation, but it isn't in the arctic circle, doesn't have a midnight sun, and kids didn't have to stand around a UV light bulb to get necessary vitamin D, like they did in some regions.

Date: 2014-05-23 11:17 am (UTC)Philip doesn't have any tattoos, either, and every Vory has them in order to identify them. Plus, he works for the KGB, which a Vory wouldn't be inclined to do.
They might be wanna be Vory, though.
