Patriotism and betrayal of country
Date: 2014-05-22 08:51 pm (UTC)He took a long time to decide not to deliver Echo because he was agonizing over what would happen to Nina and what it meant for his complicity in what would likely amount to her death. But yeah, it would have been out of character for him to take the other road.
Everyone's talking about it like it's just a case of bringing her in or not, but a lot of things about her character say that she wouldn't do it simply because it's not a cause that would inspire her enough.
I honestly don't know whether Paige would go for it in the end, but I don't think the KGB is crazy to think of her in those terms, and I don't think Elizabeth is, either. If she were to go for it, though, it would be as you suggest: her disconnecting the country from its government and working to save the whole world (her country-of-birth included) from people who are doing things she disagrees with.
