Two milestones worthy of mention from this past week: our countdown to season two is now down to less than a month, and our small-but-mighty comm hit fifty subscribers (welcome! don't be shy. :).

GQ did a racy photoshoot with Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell.

Charitybuzz is auctioning off a set visit to The Americans and lunch with Keri Russell in support of the Adrienne Shelly Foundation (which supports women filmmakers).

Giving my own thoughts in the comments:

Judging from the reaction on tumblr, I am apparently the only fan of this show who doesn't care for the GQ shoot at all (they are just so clearly not in character, you know?), but I suppose I'm just weird that way. :)

I would actually totally bid on that charity auction--I would not only kill for a set visit, but it's a great cause and I think it's very very cool that the show is supporting it in this way--but I have absolutely no idea what I'd say to Keri Russell if I won! Talk about an awkward lunch. Ah well, it's probably just as well.

The shots are definitely out of character. To me it looks set up like they're honeytrapping each other and I imagine them in the bedroom with each other never wanting it to stray anywhere near that. Still, I made them okay in my head by imagining that as Elizabeth and Philip start letting down boundaries with each other maybe their bedroom life over time gets more playful and relaxed too. Like I imagine at first there's a whole lot of unspoken issues lingering in the bedroom that they don't really want to talk about, and they're really trying to form something new and intimate and not have it go near the sort of sex "act" they put on with their marks, "Wow, Martha, that was really amazing," or whatever that completely AWESOME line was where the dialogue and tone couldn't have been more of a mismatch. Or Elizabeth acting out every man's Playboy fantasy. Or the passionless we-have-sex-because-it's-ordered scenario they had in place for so long before.

I didn't much care for the photo shoot either. I mean, they're both very pretty, but none of it seemed relevant to the show beyond that so it was just...okay.

And I would have zero to say to Keri Russell. Matthew Rhys seems like he'd be able to riff on anything for the space of a lunch and just entertain you, but I've no idea what she would be like one on one. (Not that I'd give MR a chance to do that, because I'd probably be interrogating him about his character more harshly than the fake FBI guys in "Trust Me.")

I can't believe we're down to less than a month! We'll probably start getting episode synopses maybe next week, yay!

And is anyone else worried that Joel Fields hasn't tweeted in days? He was on such a roll there that I was starting to get a little concerned...

I noticed, but I'm not worried. I mean, one of the last things he tweeted was that Joe Weisberg was getting nervous that he was too busy with twitter to make the show, so I suspect he's just busy. I think the tweeting will ramp up on all fronts once the show is made and they just have to promote it.

Elizabeth comes back from her injury and straight into what should have been a routine mission – but it goes awry, leaving her and Philip in fear not only for themselves but for their whole network… and family. Hopefully we'll start seeing new episode descriptions each week. We've already had quite a few episode 1 spoilers so there isn't really new info in this description.

I agree. I think I was excited more for its existence :). We're so close! But I think we don't know much of anything about the others except titles, so I can't wait to find out more about those!
