I suspect that 'show time' will never get to 1986, but today is the 30th anniversary of the
Chernobyl disaster.
On the 27th April 1986, the city of
Pripyat was evacuated for 'short term', but has remained unpopulated ever since and will be so for many, many years. As well as the linked to site, a pile of other photos of it exist.
The Soviet Union only got around to admitting something had happened on the 28th, following the Swedish nuclear industry noticing the fallout...
