The problem I had with that was that I simply don't believe that he thinks that (there is no way you could climb the ladder of the Soviet bureaucracy and maintain that belief). I liked the explanation another comm member gave in another thread that what he really thinks is that he doesn't want HIS political connections being tainted by pardoning some lowlife traitor.
