I definitely think Arkady pushed it over the edge for Stan! Their relationship has been a weird but brilliant addition to this season, and I think that it's absolutely a fundamental part of what happened.
And I saw it as kind of bringing the "Stan is SO ALONE and oh god" thing into focus: Arkady is literally the only person Stan has been having actually honest conversations with for quite a while now.
