I saw it as both. Like as soon as I read Todd's version, I was like, yup, that fits perfectly. And then Genevieve's did too. That's the great thing about the two of them--they're so complex. Just like in that scene in "Covert War" at the motel where Philip tells Elizabeth he got an apartment, you can see he's feeling anger, hurt, longing, love for her... there's so many things wrapped up in his head, and this little thread played out the same way for me. I think he's pushed and pulled in both directions.
