I should underscore that you have to be willing to offer more than just one small fandom, though--I think it's four--and you have to be willing to write in any of those four. But chances are very high that you would get The Americans if you offered to write it, because it's likely to be one of the bigger of the small fandoms (i.e. there actually is a fandom for it, tiny though we are).
