Date: 2014-03-09 06:37 pm (UTC)I imagine that the excuse-reason, i.e. the way she justified it to herself, was that Gregory rose pretty high up the hierarchy pretty fast because it was clear from the beginning that he was a big "get" for the KGB (by the time we knew him he wasn't just an underling, but actually in charge of his own crew running things without direct control from Philip and Elizabeth, so they trusted him with a lot more than agents normally get trusted with). But I think the main actual reason was that Elizabeth wanted to be able to be as much herself with him as she could without actually breaking any rules. If you think about the timing of when they would have met, that would have been so, so important to her at that point.
