This post is intended to allow discussion of the season finale, as reflected in the official show promos.

Please keep the comments spoiler free from anything not mentioned in the promos (interviews, articles etc).

Clips will be added as they appear online.  If you find any clip floating around, please post in the comments and I'll update the post.

So, from the preview/exclusive scene they look to be united. Anything else different later on would seem to be manufactured to respond to their extreme situation. Clearly, they and their children are in desperate danger.

There will surely be a cliff hanger from S2. Can't wait to see how it plays out.

Finally saw the exclusive scene on Facebook, and there was also a scene on The Colbert Report.

On Facebook: Clark is at Martha's and the phone rings and it's...for Clark. So he's immediately freaked out. It's Jennifer, telling him that Uncle Drew has wandered off and Mother is frantic. He needs to come home.

So he rushes home. I'd forgotten all this time they thought Larrick was in Nicaragua. Now they realize he came back and went AWOL right before George and Kate went missing. They think they need to get out of there quick.

On Colbert:

This scene was really funny. Philip comes into the kitchen, Paige has presumably just come home from the protest. He says she's "out like a light," that he thinks she "didn't sleep the whole trip" and adds that "if she said one more thing about non-violent protest he was going to punch her in the face." LOL!

Elizabeth says it's good she has passion about something and wants to make a difference.

Philip says, with some contempt, that she thinks a pastor getting arrested for loitering is some kind of hero. Elizabeth says she wishes they could tell her about the real heroes, the ones who sacrifice themselves for this world and not some fairy tale about heaven. Philip says seriously that "somebody sacrificed themselves today."

I loved that when they played the clip on Colbert Philip's "punch her in the face line" got a big laugh.

Ack, how are we going to wait until next week???

In the final kitchen scene, Philip says that someone has sacrificed himself today.

Was it Jared who gave up his country? Was it Nina or Stan? Or, was it someone else who we haven't seen as yet?

I wonder if they're both talking about somebody they already know did that or if that's Philip breaking some news to Elizabeth.

So next week Elizabeth says "This what I really look like." Who would she be saying that to. Jared?

I think I'm actually emotionally prepared for anything the finale might throw at me. What I'm less emotionally prepared for is the season ending (and the fandom temporarily disbanding). I will be so bereft.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Oh, I'm just being maudlin. I'm sure it will be fine. There are just likely to be a lot of faces who won't come back until the runup to season three, and that's a bit sad, you know?

Maybe it'll be more active this summer? Questions of the week! Episode discussion!

I'm loving you guys' spirit of optimism! I don't have much hope for that based on what things were like between seasons last time around (I expect that a core group of regulars will continue to visit, but that there won't be anything like the level of discussion we have at the moment), but I would love to be proved wrong about that.

The hardest thing for me before the comm was still wanting to talk about the show and not being able to find anyone who still wanted to talk about it. So at least to me it feels good to know there are others (even if only a few!) who want to keep the discussion going as we wait for S3.

Thank you for saying that! I felt exactly the same way before the comm, and that was one of the biggest reasons why I said yes when [dreamwidth.org profile] treonb suggested we start it. I'm sure grateful for all of your contributions.

The superlatives from the critics who have already seen Ep 13 are quite astonishing. I too am worried about what the so-called conflict may be between P&E and who might not make it back for S3.

I will be happy to have this board available for conversation throughout the summer. I seem never to tire of discussing this wonderful show.

Matthew indicated they would get the first scripts in August and start shooting in October. There may be some news that filters out at that time. I hope they don't wait until late Feb to premiere S3. That's a lifetime away.

How sad is it that I read about the script schedule and think "Ooh, he'll have plenty of time to learn scenes in Russian just in case!"

Seriously! I am in need of some Philip backstory here! How much longer can they torture us!

I know. It's tough because part of me kind of missed the conflict between them (and therefore more focus on the marriage) this season, but then I also liked the more loving relationship they finally had. So I kind of like the idea of conflict (?) but not so much conflict that they're in danger. And it's still kind of sad to me that Elizabeth has never told Philip she loves him.

I hope the show comes back in late January like S1. This past time we really had to wait like 10 months. If it starts in January, it's really only like 8, and then photos from filming, episode titles, and other tidbits will start emerging in just a few months.

Edited to add: I think what was most upsetting to me in season one was the idea of outsiders in their marriage--it could actually be interesting to watch in a different way if it wasn't an outside threat but more of an internal one because of the real differences in their viewpoints. It could be good conflict to watch them try to navigate that while also wanting to be married to each other.

I'm afraid too. (And excited.) And worried it will end with some sort of cliffhanger which will make waiting 9 months unbearable. 8 months? Maybe shorter this time if they start in January since there's no Olympics.

I should not be watching this as I haven't seen eps 11 and 12 yet, but have to say, Philip's Lenin disguise is hilarious.
