Oh, sure, but I also really think they're trying to tell us something about Philip by not telling us very many specifics about him. There's something about Philip that makes it emotionally difficult to talk about his past: either because it's hard to think about, or because he's got such a fragile sense of that self after all of these years being someone else, or both.
