Two styles of flashbacks

I'm in complete agreement about Philip's flashbacks working better, but unlike you I actually am critical of how they did Elizabeth's and wish they'd done them differently. While I've always appreciated knowing specific things about Elizabeth's past, I've always thought the particular way they did her flashbacks was really clunky and too on-the-nose. The way Philip's flashbacks were done was much more consistent with the kind of show it was otherwise. I know there's the "show don't tell" adage, but it would have been perfectly consistent with her character for her to simply tell Philip about all of these things. And then we would have gotten his reaction to them, as well as seeing what particular spin she put on these various things, rather than just being presented with facts about the character's history.
