Yeah, but that was five years ago, and there's been no indication that he's ever kept that suspicion up. Quite the opposite, with how much he's trusted Philip. Again, I don't necessarily NOT buy it, but it felt just a little too convenient that this particular weirdness set off his radar when he's seen them through so much else and shrugged it off.

I have to agree, which is a shame. I can go with it, but it's definitely a bit too pat.

Stan's suspicion in the pilot

Plus in the pilot after his initial moment where he was suspicious of just about everything, he checked the car because it matched the one from the crime.
